product details ] The Ion 20 is the most successful Nicolai downhill frame of all time having won countless podium finishes and trophies. This frame may be the workhorse of the Nicolai team riders but its a bike that will benefit all riders - not just the pro’s. Downhill should first and foremost be about speed and fun and not just about competition. The Ion geometry is based around a long front end combined with a short rear - it is this that gives it the awesome tracking and stability in corners and fast turns whilst keeping the bike agile on technical trails. Frame weight is a very reasonable 4.1kg* and this, combined with a neutral rear suspension, allows aggressive acceleration and a playful handling. We have given it a slightly progressive suspension curve to provide the maximum usable travel whilst resisting heavy bottom-out on heavy landings. The harder the track gets the better the Ion 20 can play to its strengths. It is little surprise that the Ion 20 has become one of the most ridden downhill bikes on the German National Series.
